Mill focus: E. Thomas

Perched on the shores of Lake Lugano, E. Thomas has been family-run since 1922, employing generations of artisans from nearby Brusimpiano. Independent and deeply rooted in its heritage, the mill embraces innovation, crafting exclusive fabrics through limited production runs.

E. Thomas' dedication to quality is deeply rooted in craftsmanship, with a meticulous production process that balances tradition and innovation. Dyeing takes place in Biella, where the mill maintains strong partnerships with local specialists. Rolls of fabric are produced in batches of eight, each measuring 50 meters, while the looms can weave approximately 100 meters per day, depending on the fabric type. Despite advancements in technology, certain steps remain manual, such as twisting different coloured yarns to create new shades, and carefully separating individual strands with a comb to prevent tangles. This kind of quality control truly seperates E. Thomas as a company where excellence is not just a standard, but a tradition.

The E. Thomas trademark

In a competitive industry, E. Thomas stands out as a creative force, renowned for its use of colour and texture. The mill's signature lies in its artisanal reinterpretations of classic fibres and weaves, incorporating vibrant patterns like bold checks and soft, brushed finishes that contrast with Italy’s more traditionally muted tones. By blending luxury fabrics like mohair and Mongolian cashmere with fine wool, E. Thomas creates refined and distinctive blends, with its super 150 wool and cashmere a best-selling staple.

With a global client base spanning from the US to Japan, E. Thomas is dedicated to crafting fabrics that cater to its diverse customers, offering both unique and innovative patterns alongside more classic, traditional styles.

Wool-silk-linen herringbone

E. Thomas' blend of wool, silk and linen features a distinct slubbed texture that adds plenty of character to the fabric. The addition of silk softens the cloth for a smoother handfeel, while wool adds breathability and structure. While traditional herringbones are often associated with tweed, this version has a finer weave that gives it a more polished, sophisticated feel. A great choice for warm-weather weddings.

Wool-silk-linen blend

For SS25, we've selected three wool-silk-linen blends offering different takes on light, textured cloths, each with its own distinct character. One has a more pronounced slubbed texture with a prominent weave and a natural, undyed look – we’ve cut it into a standalone jacket that will suit special occasions. The other, a plainer weave, balances linen's texture and dry handfeel with the subtle sheen of silk. Applied to our double-breasted block, it's an elevated take on summer's linen suit. And thirdly, a wool-rich weave in a rich chestnut hue, enhanced with silk’s refined softness and linen’s natural slubbed fibres.

Silk-linen-cotton slub

A highly textured cloth with prominent, uneven yarns that give it a distinct and tactile quality. The combination of linen and cotton offer durability and allow for airflow, keeping you cool, while silk adds softness. We’ve crafted this fabric into an unlined standalone jacket, offering a light and breathable feel that’s perfect for warmer weather.
