OUR GUIDE TO LONDON’S FENCHURCH STREET

Words: L. Thorpe

We’ve opened a brand-new store in Fenchurch Street where you can buy menswear, get fitted for a business suit, pick up any accessories you need, hire a suit or try something Custom Made. All in one place that’s handy for work or fun in the City.

Whether you’re starting out in your finance career, visiting London or exploring the borough in a bit more detail, here’s what you need to know about this buzzing area of London.

What’s going on in Fenchurch Street?

Located in the borough of Aldgate, Fenchurch Street is best known as part of London’s bustling financial district, with plenty of offices and headquarters of global businesses located there. That means sharp dressing, amazing restaurants and some of the tallest buildings in the capital, including The Leadenhall Building and The Shard, just across the river.

Located right in the heart of London and in one of the oldest inhabited parts of the city, there are plenty of places to shop – including our Moss Fenchurch Street location, of course – and enjoy around Fenchurch.

Things to do around Fenchurch Street

Just a 5 minute walk away from the station is the fantastic Sky Garden. Here you’ll get a birds-eye view of some of London’s most famous landmarks. There are two restaurants, London’s highest public garden, bars and events happening throughout the week. You can pick up free tickets to the garden or make a reservation for the restaurant too.

DINING OUT IN THE CITY

For fancy restaurants and fine dining in the area check out 14 Hills, Blacklock City or Nobu London Shoreditch. All three are great locations for a special occasion, an amazing date night or wining and dining your favourite clients. Angler, Coq d’Argent and The Ivy City Garden all come highly recommended too.

Looking for something lower key? Fenchurch Street Market’s just outside the station, serving food from around the world every Tuesday to Friday. Leadenhall Market is another great location, open 24 hours a day seven days a week. Whether you’re grabbing a work lunch, meeting friends or just passing through, you’ll find plenty on offer.

HEADING FOR DRINKS

One thing you’re spoiled for in the City are rooftop bars and spots with fantastic views. PocketSquare, Madison and Savage Garden all have great drinks and scenery that’ll be sure to impress whether you’re heading there with a friend or a date, or just catching up with colleagues after work.

Take off your tie, roll your sleeves and unbutton that jacket to take yourself from day to night in the City.

THE BEST OF THE REST

Want to enjoy some of London’s biggest tourist attractions? Just 10 minutes’ walk from Fenchurch Street Station you’ll find Tower Bridge and The Tower of London. The Barbican and The Shard aren’t far either, so if you want to enjoy some culture, fine dining and great views of the city, you’ll find them in this area.

How to get to Fenchurch Street

Fenchurch Street doesn’t have its own London Underground Station, but it’s close to Tower Hill and Tower Gateway which run on the Circle and DLR lines. There’s an overground service that goes to Fenchurch Street with entrances on Fenchurch Place and Cooper’s Row. Fenchurch Street is in central London Travelcard Zone 1, with plenty of bus services heading to the area.

If you’re commuting in, our performance suits should be on your radar – they’re harder wearing, crease and stain resistant, water repellent and have more stretch to the fabric, offering a more comforable journey from A to B.

Staying in style in the city

Our research found that London is one of the most fashionable cities when it comes to menswear, and Fenchurch Street is no different. You’ll probably find more well-dressed men in smart suits than anywhere else in the City.

If you’re starting work in the City and want to smarten up your work wardrobe, you can’t go wrong with a tailored fit black suit. It’s easy to style (go extra smart with a tie, shirt and some classic Oxfords) and will always make you feel on form.

Like most of our stores in the City, dresswear and staple suits are big news in Fenchurch Street – it’s all about impeccable suiting and dresswear for events, meetings and more formal workplace settings. Our performance suits in classic colours are popular choices in this area.

However, there are a few surprises that give a nod to a strong sense of personal style in this area of London. Our red boucle coat is crafted in a rich, deep red that works well with tonal tailoring and black knitwear. Alternatively, our tailored fit sage flannel suit features an elegant muted green tone, a great way to add colour to your outfit if you’re initially hesitant.

For some style inspiration on how some of the most successful men in the world are dressing, check out our guide to what the world’s billionaire business owners are wearing. You may be surprised to know it isn’t always a suit!

Looking for something a little different that’ll still keep you looking smart for your city job? Try out some different fabrics, fits and patterns like this tailored fit boucle tweed suit. It’s smart enough to wear as a business suit, but can easily be separated out and worn just as a blazer with more casual styling.

If you’re wanting to go even smarter with your suit choices, why not invest in a Custom Made suit to craft one that’s tailored to you – all without spending a City salary. If you haven’t quite found your signature style yet, suit hire’s a great way to get a feel for what works for you too. Our suit shop in Fenchurch Street has everything you need for city style.
